Areas/Start Venues

The locations of all the venues will be released 1 month before the event date. On the day look out for the Dark & White yellow /black directional signs at all events.

If in doubt as to the location contact us BEFORE the day of the event.

NB SOME OF THE CAR PARKS USED WILL BE PAY & DISPLAY; IT’S ALSO WORTH NOTING THAT A LOT OF PUBLIC TOILETS CLOSE LATE AFTERNOON/EARLY EVENING SO WE CANNOT GUARANTEE THESE WILL BE AVAILABLE AT EACH EVENT.

Maps

On the start line you will be given a bagged, colour 1:50000 OS map section (approx size A4) pre-marked with all controls. One map per team or solo rider is included in the entry fee. Extra maps available (£2 per map). A master area map can be viewed pre-start.

The Challenge

Trailquests are a test of navigational skill and stamina, they are not a race. Route planning is as important as fitness: Each control has a value. Visit as many control sites as possible within the time allowed (2 hours) to accumulate a ‘score’ -. If you are late back you loose points! (as per standard TCA rules). Control sites will be identified by bright coloured tape on an obvious feature to which a SPORTident box will be attached. “Dib” in the SPORTident box at the Start, Finish, all controls visited and THE DOWNLOAD BOX at the end! You must use a SPORTident dibber to take part in these events. You may use your own dibber if you have one (please fill in its number on the entry form). Alternatively we will rent dibbers if you do not have one. Teams please note: both members must carry and use a dibber. Remember this is a fun sport: You should slow down for and be courteous to other land users such as walkers and horseriders

The Start/Finish

Start times are between 6.00 & 7.00pm. Courses close 9.30pm. Try to arrive at least 30 minutes before your intended start so as to give time to register/prepare. At the start line you will be handed a map with a control value sheet. You will need to present a SPORTident dibber at the start, at the finish and to any marshal on demand. Free orange juice and biscuits will be available at the finish.

Entry & Results

NO FINAL DETAILS WILL BE SENT OUT. If you wish to have confirmation of a postal entry please enclose an SAE. Numbers may well be limited - ring 01335 348603 if entering late to check if places are available. Provisional results will be displayed on the day. Results will be posted on the Dark & White and TCA websites after the events (www.darkandwhite.co.uk / www.trailquest.co.uk ). Copies of the final results can also be posted out upon receipt of 50p + self-addressed envelope.

Equipment

A roadworthy bike, helmet, watch, relevant map, first aid kit, 2 x £1 for phone and substantial clothing, including quality waterproofs, are compulsory for these events. Spot checks will be carried out to ensure you comply with these requirements.

****NEW: Generation teams are now half price. Enter one event online then send us a postal entry to claim your free Buy One Get One Free entry

Prizes/Class Awards

Overall league class winners will win equipment prizes from ; runners up prizes courtesy of Dark & White Events. NB: Classes may be merged if entries are low. Prizes will be posted or handed after the last event once the results are declared final. Class placings and prizes will be awarded based on three events being completed as a solo or as a team but NOT as a combination of both.

Rapid Registration

If you have your own SI card and have pre-entered, just turn up, check the dibber number is correct and sign in. No need to queue! No need to stand about. Leave work later!!!!

Want to buy a SPORTident dibber? Buy your dibber on-line at www.sportident.co.uk or contact 0870 7661792. ‘Simple normal’ dibbers cost approx £23 and are guaranteed for 5 years.
