Final details, directions and parking arrangements RAB Mini-Mountain Marathon 9/1/11 (02/01/2011 08:04:25)

See below for final details for Sunday 9th Jan 2011:

1. Location

The event start location is Hayfield Scout Hut, Swallowhouse Lane, Hayfield, North Derbyshire SK22 2HG GR SK035873. There is a map here

To get to the venue you need to drive into Hayfield village first (it can’t be accessed directly from the main road) - look out for black and yellow Dark & White directional signs. There is a large car park adjacent to the start venue but this is not big enough for all taking part, once it’s full the marshals will redirect you.

Other parking is either (1) on street in and around the village (PLEASE don’t block drives etc), (2) there is a large P&D car park (at the end of the Sett Valley Trail and marked P on the map) just to the west of the main road at grid reference SK036869 (accessed via the A6015) or (3) there is another car park approx 1km to the east of the village (also marked P on the map) at grid reference SK048869, there is also some roadside parking on the approach road to this car park.

2. Event timings

Registration opens at 8.00am and closes at 9.30am; you can start the event at anytime you choose to between 8.45 & 10.15am. As the event is full please bear in mind that registration and the start will be busy so patience might be required! Generally the earlier you arrive and aim to start the event the less chance there is of you having to queue!

3. Kit/weather

We have had problems in the past on these events with people turning up with insufficient or unsuitable kit and expecting to start the event; PLEASE bear in mind that it’s January and that this is a high level, moorland fell running event and you need to be fully prepared particularly if the weather is poor. A minimum kit list for the event is as follows and there will be kit checks before the event so IF IN OUR OPINION YOU DON’T HAVE THE CORRECT GEAR YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO START....YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!

Minimum kit requirements:

  • Boots or fell running shoes that in the organiser’s opinion are fully suitable for the type of rough terrain to be encountered.
  • Waterproof cagoule/jacket (with taped seams)
  • Windproof leg cover, In the likelihood of poor weather, full leg cover/overtrousers must be carried
  • Other warm body cover appropriate for the prevailing weather conditions (including hat & gloves)
  • Sufficient coins for telephone calls or a mobile phone;
  • A plentiful supply of liquid and food to see you through the event
  • Compass (preferably a Silva type)
  • Whistle
  • 4. **VERY IMPORTANT** ACCESS

You MUST stay on official rights of way unless the land being used is specifically designated as open land. As a rule, if farmland is fenced off it’s done so for a reason and therefore you must stick to the paths and use specific crossing points as marked on the map i.e. stiles/gates etc. AT PREVIOUS MINI-MM EVENTS WE CONTINUALLY GET REPORTS OF A FEW MINDLESS/SELFISH RUNNERS WHO SEEM TO DELIGHT IN HOPPING OVER FENCES AND TAKING SHORT CUTS OVER PRIVATE LAND – THIS CAUSES US ALL SORTS OF PROBLEMS WITH LANDOWNERS AND PUTS ALL FUTURE FELL RUNNING EVENTS IN THESE AREAS AT RISK. PLEASE, PLEASE DON’T DO THIS!! WE WOULD STRONGLY ENCOURAGE ALL RUNNERS TO BE ON THE LOOK OUT FOR THESE NUISANCES AND TO EITHER (A) STOP THEM AT THE TIME OR (B) TAKE A FULL DESCRIPTION OF THEM AND GIVE AN EVENT MARSHAL FULL DETAILS AT THE FINISH. Thanks for your help.....

    5. HELP REQUIRED!

Help required with getting controls in after the event. If anybody fancies a post event jog/shuffle to collect 2/3 controls in it would help us enormously; FREE entry to any one of the forthcoming RaceKit mini-MM’s event is the reward (or if you’ve already entered them we will give you your entry fee back). Email info@darkandwhite.co.uk or see us on the day at registration.

    6. Results

Provisional results will be on display after the event and on the Dark & White website on the Sunday evening/Monday morning. Prize winners will be contacted by email after the event.

    7. Refreshments

Refreshments will be available at the finish i.e. tea, coffee, juice & biscuits.

Finally, if you need any further event information or a copy of the original event entry form please drop us an email to info@darkandwhite.co.uk
