Trailquests
These are mountain bike orienteering/navigation events (also known as mtbo’s) run under the auspices and rules of the Trail Cyclists Association (The TCA); all our events are based in and around the Peak District with the occasional one in Sherwood & the Nottinghamshire forests.
Dark & White currently organise a Trailquest Winter League in the months October – March which comprise a series of 8 x 3 hour events on a Sunday morning – these are very well supported with an entry usually in the region of 200 riders.
During the Summer months there is a weekday evening league involving a total of six x 2 hour events in the months May - August; these are a bit more of laid back than the longer Winter events and usually start & finish near a pub for some post race refreshment!
At Trailquest events each entrant is supplied at the start with a bagged colour OS map extract over-printed with all the required event information. The aim of the event is to navigate your way between a series of checkpoints and collect as many points as you can in a specified time period. Armed with your map, your bike and your brain, it is up to you to decide which route you take. Each checkpoint has a score, and generally the ones which are further away and more difficult to get to are worth more points. If you take longer than the allotted time you are penalised some of your hard earned points. Entries are either as a solo or as a pair in various classes; a wide range of abilities always take part.

Enduro Events
These are forest based mtb endurance events, usually 4 hours long over a set course. The object of the event is to ride as many laps as possible within the overall time limit at the same time as navigating your way round a challenging course which includes a variety of terrain i.e. singletrack, fireroads, rides etc.
Mountain Biking
A number of social mtb weekends away are organised by Dark & White each year - for dates, prices and more information about trips to some of the classic UK mountain biking areas (including the Lakes, Yorkshire Dales, Wales & the Scottish Borders) see either below or the Events page.
